Guys Swapping Licks in the Kitchen

Several Southern (Texas?) guys in the kitchen of a doublewide mobile home take turns spanking each other hard with belts and a paddle marked "Attitude Adjuster" which seems to sting like hell.  I wonder if one of these guys bought the paddle as a joke, or if it is part of an arsenal belonging to absent parents.  Arse-enal, hehe.

Some thoughts on position

In the past there were many places men were spanked: prisons, the military, slavery (from ancient times to the 20th century), clubs such as college fraternities, in athletic training, sometimes even the workplace, especially for domestic servants.  And of course, homes where adult sons were/are still spanked (possibly common in rural areas until recently).  Most of these places had traditional implements and positions that they used.
Rhythmic blows to the buttocks are the most satisfying punishment for the punisher, but it has always struck me that the spanking could go on a long long time, because the dom, officer, master, boss, whatever is excited without release--he doesn't achieve orgasm through spanking his victim (though some men reach orgasm getting a spanking) and in many cases he isn't even conscious he's being sexually aroused--he just feels good.

In The Naked Ape, Desmond Morris suggests that the reason the dominant male often makes his victim lower his trousers is not to increase the pain, but so that he may enjoy the reddening of the buttocks as the punishment progresses.  He further suggests that the punishment will last longer as a result, since the alpha male enjoys it more and more as the buttocks glow in response. 

And he suggests that forcing the victim to bend over is done to increase the pleasure of the punisher. 

While it certainly has this effect, punishment with a non-flexible instrument like a paddle is far less painful if the buttocks are soft, so bending tight increases the pain, but also the risk of bruising.

Some thoughts on Power: it's social, not physical

Some thoughts, provoked by a recent email correspondence:

It's amazing how specific our fetishes can be.  I like it when the guy being spanked is very masculine, with muscles and facial hair and long, hairy legs.  I like to see alpha males, strong, confident guys, take a spanking. 

I like it when a smaller guy spanks a bigger, as often happens for example in fraternities, or happened in the past in prisons, slavery or the military.  I've heard people express incredulity that this could happen; they obviously didn't go to high school in the mid-20th century South, where strapping 18 year old lads were paddled by pencil neck geek math teachers and old ladies (not to mention hot chicks right out of college) on the flimsiest pretexts.  Do they think slaves, servants, soldiers, sailors, convicts, etc in the past were all smaller than those who had power over them?  The power is social, not physical.

I wonder how many married men submit to sexual, or even disciplinary, spankings, even if they don't like getting it as much as their women like to give it.  Straight men will do anything for some vagina. 

You sometimes see scenes in spanking films where someone says "If you're going to act like a child, I'm going to treat you like a child."  This is a huge turnoff for me, I hate it.  I like the masculine toughness of a man taking his punishment like a man.  And I don't think children should be spanked. 

It is amazing that after thousands of years of corporal punishment of adults, our society has decided that it's appropriate for kids, not adults.  What's more predictible is that many people raised in such a society can't imagine anything else.

Spanking as an occupational hazard

One of the questions that will never be resolved about spanking of adult men is how widespread it actually is as a real disciplinary event, simply because people don't talk about it. This little excerpt from the February 12, 1989 Chicago Tribune illustrates the problem:

DALLAS — The life of an undercover narcotics cop posing as a high school student is always fraught with hazards, but a new peril emerged one morning last fall at W.T. White High School.

That is when ``David Williams`` and some of his friends were caught lingering in the halls after the bell rang. The tardy students were herded into the gym, where the principal outlined their options-45 minutes in detention hall after school or two whacks from the school paddle, a 30-inch pine model dubbed ``Swift Justice.``

``Williams,`` who was actually a 25-year-old Dallas patrolman named David Bessels, chose the paddling.

``I`d lined up a drug deal after school,`` he said later, ``and I wasn`t about to be sitting in school for another 45 minutes.``

In the process, Bessels-whose undercover operation netted 28 arrests, including six W.T. White students-probably became the first police officer ever to be spanked in the line of duty.

The case of the paddled policeman prompted chuckles in squad rooms across the country...

I need hardly tell you the great interest this story aroused in me (and I'm sure thousands of others) when it appeared in newspapers across the country. I love the humorous tone, the detail...

But I want to question a few things: "the school paddle"? They only have one paddle?

"The Principal"? Other stories (this was very widely reported at the time) say it was an Assistant Principal, which is more likely in my opinion--principals are usually in the office doing administrative bullshit while a high school of any size usually has 3-4 Ass. Principals patrolling the building(s).

And most of all, I question "probably became the first police officer ever to be spanked in the line of duty." These kind of operations have gone on for decades.  Paddling high schools were hosting undercover policeman at least as early as the early 1970s, and while corporal punishment has declined steadily, it continues in many places unquestioned. At this school, spanking was lighthearted enough that the paddles had knicknames!


(btw, this kind of paddling, of older boys choosing a couple of swats over detention, has I suspect, declined the least, simply because it is the least likely to result in a legal complaint, or any complaint at all. Compared to paddling girls, younger students, and those given no choice in the matter; or compared to severe paddling that could leave bruises. Anyway, is it really possible that none of these cops have ever gotten even one lick? In this case, the only reason we got this information is because

1. the cop himself told his superiors about it
2. the officer who gave the press conference announcing the arrests at the end of the operation told the reporters
3. at least one reporter found cop spanking a funny story
4. someone enjoyed the story enough to put it out on the AP line
5. innumerable editorial boards were sufficiently amused at the undercover cop's expense  to report his paddling to the general public.  (And not embarrassed by the story--most liberal papers didn't run it--conservative papers are notorious in the news world for missing the racy implications.  This story ran on the front page of the Tampa Tribune.) 

None of these things had to happen, and while 3-5 are pretty understandable, 1 & 2 strike me as extremely unlikely--what spanked 25 year old man wants it broadcast to the world?

I will be the first to admit that my feelings about 25 year old men (especially policemen!) being spanked may color my judgment, but still, an occasional date with the paddle must, even nowadays, be an occupational hazard for cops assigned to certain schools.

This reticence must also apply to young men (college students, for example) who are spanked domestically or elsewhere as adults--they're not going to go around talking about it. In a world where there is increasingly no privacy and no secrets, this is one thing likely to remain invisible. Or maybe it doesn't exist--we'll never know.
