In home discipline, lying on the bed has always been a popular position for punishing young adult males, usually with longer implements such as belts or yardsticks. It can be a rather harsh position to receive punishment in, since swinging an implement straight down allows the strokes to build up great momentum. Of course domestic discipline is almost always with the buttocks bare, or with the subject completely naked, so there is no protection.
